REVIEWING VIDEOS: WHAT TO LOOK FOR; MAKING AN ANALYSIS

Now it's time to look at a few sample videos and make an analysis. Print out the following questions, and take them with you when you interview videographers. Leave spaces to log in your impressions:

1. Are they "cookie cutter"?

In other words, are the special effects the same? Is the music the same? Is the entry and exit the same (in all the videos you've seen)? If it is, there's one ingredient missing from the videographer's work: PERSONALIZATION--an essential element that makes every bride and groom's video uniquely their own.

2. Is the picture clear? Or is it jumpy?

It must be clear and the picture should not jump. The quality should be the same as that movie you watch on HBO.

3. Are there dead spots?

There shouldn't be.

4. Are you aware of the special effects?

Special effects are pleasant but should not stand on their own. They should not take the place of a videographer's talent and skill.

5. How's the lighting?

It should not be too dark or too light.

6. How's the sound?

It must be even, not fading in or out.

7. How long does it last?

It should last no longer than two hours (including the entire ceremony). Think about it. The Godfather, an Oscar winning movie that details the lives of a generation of gangsters lasts 171 minutes. Why should a wedding video that incorporates a few hours in the life of a couple, last longer? To make it excessively long is to make it boring... HO...HUMMMM...

8. Does it keep you entertained?

You should feel enjoyment and pleasure when you watch it.

9. Do you feel emotion?

It should pull at your heartstrings :)

THE ANALYSIS:

If you answered the above questions affirmatively, then you're looking at a terrific video. Just make sure the person you're speaking with is the one who shot it. ASK THAT QUESTION NOW!
